  1. Not necessarily…like I said we should promote hardware innovation instead. For a company Microsoft’s size, whatever we do should have a very very crisp roadmap. Every company has got their own way of doing business. For Apple, it’s HW+SW Ecosystem, for IBM it’s services and for us it’s software ‘with’ partners. So it may not be a terribly good idea to invest on HW right now, we may just overspend our expertise. However, whenever we see a market where a big HW partner simply doesn’t exist we should do it ourselves like we did with Xbox or Zune. Also, I believe, Innovation can never come infinitely from a single mind center – one day it’ll simply get exhausted. So it’s better to spread it out and let experts do their jobs. What’s working today for Apple may not work in 2015 (even God Himself cannot guarantee that)! So it’s better to invest on your strengths and evoke strong partnerships on your complimentary skill. It’s better to invest on computing.

My bet is Nokia smartphone and Nokia Tablet lines. That’ll spur innovation even in other partners too. 🙂
